'Wind your neck in' - Liverpool fans react to Alan Shearer's comments about Virgil Van Dijk
Fans have been reacting with anger after Alan Shearer hit out at Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk over claims that stars are being asked to play too many games.
Van Dijk insisted that players in England have seen an unacceptable increase in workload in recent years and called on his fellow players to speak out about the threats to their health.
Whilst the Liverpool defender acknowledged that players are paid a lot, he insisted that money should not come at the cost of players’ health.
But former Newcastle man Alan Shearer said Van Dijk’s claims were “nonsense” particularly given all of the facilities players have access to nowadays that they did not before as well as the amount of money players are paid.
Shearer also noted the size of squad and well as the number of substitutes as part of the reason players like Van Dijk should not be complaining about fixture schedules.
