Paul Merson shares Man City title verdict after double defeat - 'Do not get me wrong'

Man City won’t finish lower than second in the Premier League this season.

That’s according to Paul Merson, who is convinced it is “game on” for City after their two Premier League defeats and doesn’t buy claims that they are tired.

Pep Guardiola’s side suffered back to back defeats in the league, first a 2-1 defeat to Wolves at the Molineux which ended their 100 per cent win record for the current campaign.

On Sunday (8 October), the Cityzens fell to a 1-0 defeat to last year’s title challengers Arsenal.

Guardiola’s side are currently third in the Premier League table with eighteen points from their opening eight matches.

Tottenham and Arsenal are the two teams ahead of them at the international break, both of whom are undefeated this season but are only two points in front of the Sky Blues.

But Merson insisted, in a new exchange, that there is no team who can better City after the winter break.

“They were missing Rodri and Keven De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, one of their best players last season, was a sub and not playing, so I would not have expected them to be peppering Arsenal’s goal,” he told Sky Sports.

“Man City are slow starters. DO not get me wrong it is game on as they have just lost again but they are the only team in the league who can win 13-14 games on the trot when it gets past Christmas.

“You look at their squad and it is much bigger than everyone else’s – any side that finishes above Man City this season will be league champions. There is no way two or three teams will finish above them.
