Sources: Pochettino opens door for Tottenham to sign star he wants out

Tottenham target Trevoh Chalobah does not figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Chelsea, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues boss has opened the door to a potential Spurs switch in the January window by informing the 24-year-old that he will not play a key part for his side going forward.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (12 November) that Tottenham are interested in a January swoop for Chelsea defender Chalobah following Micky van de Ven’s injury.

It is believed Bayern Munich are also ready to swoop for the centre-back.

Chalobah is yet to play a single minute for Chelsea in the 2023-24 campaign with injury seriously limiting his involvement.

Injury has also affected Tottenham – with summer signing Van de Ven expected to be out until the new year after suffering a hamstring problem.

And a move for Chalobah could benefit both sides of the bitter cross-London rivalry.

Chelsea are keen to add signings in the goalkeeper and forward areas in the January window but do not currently have any Financial Fair Play margin available to them.

Chalobah, 24, is a product of the club’s academy and would therefore be considered pure profit in the Blues’ accounts if sold.

He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2028 after penning a new deal less than 12 months ago.

The ex-England Under-21 international made 33 appearances for Chelsea last term and has turned out for the Blues 63 times in total, notching four goals and one assist.
