Sources: Eric Dier 'seriously interested' in quitting Tottenham to join Bayern Munich

Eric Dier is likely to be seriously interested in leaving Tottenham for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (13 November) that Bayern are plotting a move for Dier, 29, in the mid-season transfer window.

The Spurs star is out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

As such, January could be the final opportunity for Tottenham to cash in on the defender – and it is believed the Lilywhites would only consider a permanent move rather than a loan switch.

It is believed Spurs have no appetite to sanction a loan exit for Dier as he approaches the end of his contract.

The England international is currently needed by Ange Postecoglou’s side in the wake of injury to Micky van de Ven and suspension for Cristian Romero.

But Tottenham will be in the market for a new centre-back in the January window.

Most recently, Football Insider revealed (12 November) that the north Londoners are interested in a January swoop for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah following Van de Ven’s injury.

The Dutchman, who had impressed after joining in the summer window, is expected to be sidelined well into the new year after suffering a serious hamstring injury last week.

Dier only made his first appearance of the season in the aftermath of Romero’s straight red card in the 4-1 loss against Chelsea on 6 November.

He subsequently made his first start under Postecoglou later that week in the 2-1 loss against Wolves.

The 29-year-old joined Tottenham in 2014 and has gone on to make 362 appearances for the Lilywhites, notching 13 goals and 12 assists.

He could feature in Postecoglou’s defence yet again in Spurs’ next game against Aston Villa on 26 November.
