'All available options' - Updated Newcastle January plan revealed as coaches fear season could unravel

Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United recruitment staff are set to re-evaluate their January transfer plan following their recent injury struggles, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies have been decimated by injuries in recent weeks, culminating in their 2-0 away defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday (11 November).

And a well-placed source has now told Football Insider that Howe and his staff are now “looking at all available options” as they bid to improve the squad in January.

It is believed Newcastle chiefs and coaches fear their season could now unravel with their squad now down to the bare bones.

They are desperate to prevent that outcome and will now re-evaluate their plans for the upcoming January window.

The Magpies were without Bruno Guimaraes against Bournemouth after he received a one-match suspension for accruing five yellow cards.

With Sandro Tonali suspended until the start of the 2024-25 campaign after breaking betting rules, 17-year-old Lewis Miley started in the loss against the Cherries.

Miguel Almiron was forced off in the defeat to join the growing list of Newcastle stars on the treatment table.

Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn are also currently sidelined with injury problems.

Eddie Howe’s side have slipped to seventh in the Premier League table following the Bournemouth loss, and are now six points adrift of Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification.

Back-to-back losses against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage now sees them bottom of Group F with two games left to play.

The Magpies are next in action against Chelsea on 25 November.
