Sources: Liverpool coaches seriously impressed by Levi Colwill as they join race to sign him

Liverpool are tracking Chelsea loan star Levi Colwill ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Arsenal are also believed to be monitoring the 20-year-old centre-back, who is impressing on a season-long loan at Brighton, as they plot a move at the end of the season.

The two giants are in the market for a left-sided defender and believe Covill, who can play at left-sided centre-back, on the left of a back three or at left-back, fits the bill.

Coaches at Anfield are believed to have been seriously impressed by the youngster, including when he played against them in Brighton’s 3-0 league win on 14 January.

Brighton do not have an option to buy Colvill when his current loan ends in the summer and it is believed Chelsea will be reluctant to let him go permanently.

Colvill joined the Seagulls last summer to work under current Blues boss Graham Potter, who gave the youngster just two substitute appearances before moving to London.

Colwill has been afforded more first team opportunities under new boss Roberto de Zerbi and has started five Premier League games as well as three league cup games.

The youngster picked up an injury in training in January and made his comeback on Sunday (5 March) when he played 45 minutes for the under-21s side in their 3-1 win over Wolves.

As quoted by The Argus (5 March), De Zerbi said the defender will be a “very important player” for them for the remainder of the season.

Colwill began his career in the Blues’ youth academy back in 2019 and worked his way through the teams before joining Huddersfield on loan for the second half of the 2021-22 season.

He joined Brighton on loan last summer and is set to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Liverpool are in need of further central defensive additions as Jurgen Klopp has been plagued with injuries to his centre-backs this season.

Despite their 7-0 victory over Man United on Sunday (5 March), the Reds have had their fair share of defensive problems to contend with this season.

Klopp’s side are also looking to bring in more young talent to an ageing squad and are interested in another Chelsea star – the midfielder Mason Mount.
