Agbonlahor can't believe Liverpool could complete Alexis Mac Allister deal amid '£30m' claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Alexis Mac Allister’s £70million valuation is “ridiculous” as Liverpool line up a summer move for the midfielder.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old is worth “£30-40million” after a good season for Brighton.

Sources told this site on Thursday (2 March) that Liverpool have registered an interest in Brighton star Mac Allister- with the midfielder “ready to go” to a bigger club this summer.

It is believed that the World Cup winner will be allowed to leave the Seagulls if their £70million asking price is met.

Mac Allister, who is under contract until June 2025, has managed seven goals in 22 appearances across all competitions as a regular starter for Roberto De Zerbi’s side this term.

Football Insider revealed last month (24 February) that Liverpool have set their sights on signing three new midfielders this summer as they brace for a total overhaul.

Reds stars Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to leave Anfield for free when their contracts expire in June.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think Mac Allister is worth £70million.

“To me, he’s a £30-40million player. I think these numbers are getting silly now.

“Anyone who has a good season is instantly a £70-100million player.

“I think it’s ridiculous.

“Yes, he’s had a good season with Brighton and he’s won the World Cup with Argentina.

“But I feel that £70million is far too expensive. Liverpool are in need of midfielders, though, and that could price them out of some transfers.”
