Sources: Everton in advanced talks with West Ham over last-gasp Cornet move

Everton are in advanced talks with West Ham over a late move for Maxwel Cornet, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees are racing the clock to seal a deal for the 26-year-old ahead of Friday’s transfer cut-off.

It is understood that a deal between both parties is close with Cornet closing in on a late switch to the Merseyside club.

Cornet has fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium and only played one minute of football for West Ham this season.

The Hammers have made a strong start to their Premier League campaign, going unbeaten in their opening three matches.

But Cornet’s only action so far has come through a late cameo off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on the opening weekend.

The Ivory Coast international endured a difficult 2022/23 season, playing just 666 minutes of first-team football after struggling with a number of injuries.

He provided five assists across all competitions and failed to score.

It is clear that Cornet is no longer in David Moyes’ plans at West Ham, and the Londoners are willing to part ways with him for a suitable price.

Everton are eager to bring Cornet to Goodison Park to strengthen Sean Dyche’s side after a poor start to the season.

The Toffees are hopeful that Dyche can help Cornet rediscover the form he showed at former club Burnley, where he scored nine goals in 29 appearances for the Clarets in the 2021/22 season.
