Newcastle United told to '100%' U-turn on Maxwel Cornet after latest - Agbonlahor

Newcastle United should “100 per cent” try and sign Mawel Cornet this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted other Premier League clubs should be targeting Cornet.

Chronicle Live reported earlier this week (11 July) that Newcastle want to bring another forward before the end of the transfer window and had been offered the 25-year-old.

The Athletic reported earlier this year (16 May) that he has a £17.5million release clause in his Burnley contract that was activated following their relegation from the Premier League.

Armando Broja, Moussa Diaby, Jack Harrison and Anthony Gordon have all been credited as targets for Eddie Howe’s side in recent weeks.

They have already bolstered their ranks at the other end of the pitch with the arrivals of Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

Asked whether Newcastle should pursue a deal for Cornet, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“I really like him. I feel like last season he stood out so much in a poor Burnley side.

“He’s definitely Premier League quality. For me, it would definitely be a great move.

“I feel other clubs should look at him because he’s a very good player.”

Cornet moved to Burnley from Ligue 1 side Lyon last summer (2021) for a reported £12.9million fee.

The Ivory Coast international scored nine goals and provided one assist in 26 Premier League games for Burnley in 2021-22 as they were relegated to the Championship.
