Sources: Chelsea star Ian Maatsen undergoing Burnley medical today
Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen is undergoing a Burnley medical on Thursday morning, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League giants have given the green light to the Dutchman, 20, to head to the Championship club on a season-long loan.
Terms have been agreed between the two clubs and the transfer of Maatsen is expected to be completed soon.
The left-back joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2018 and has emerged as a top young talent from the academy.
He has spent the last two seasons out on loan, first at Charlton Athletic and then Coventry City.
The Netherlands under-21 international was a standout performer for the Sky Blues last term.
He scored three goals and contributed one assist in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Maatsen also proved his versatility during his time in the Championship, playing as both a traditional left-back and in a more advanced wing-back role.
His performances caught the eye of the scouting team at Burnley, who have moved swiftly to seal a temporary deal.
He is set to join the Clarets for the 2022/23 campaign, with Vincent Kompany’s men looking to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
Burnley are not the only club who have been impressed by Maatsen’s rise through the ranks.
The defender has played just once for Chelsea’s senior side to date.
