'Not even hiding the match-fixing' - Celtic fans fume over Kyogo controversy as latest footage analysed

Celtic fans were fuming over a “shambles” decision in their 6-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night (7 November).

Pablo Barrios was lucky to escape without even a yellow card after a studs-up challenge on Kyogo Furuhashi in the first half – a similar tackle that saw Daizen Maeda sent off just minutes earlier.

The Hoops went on to lose the tie with a heavy defeat. Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring just six minutes in, but Diego Simeone’s men turned it on in the last half an hour with three goals.

The result leaves Celtic rock bottom of their group with just one point and Lazio and Feyenoord still to play.

While fans were frustrated by the result, many felt wronged by the poor officiating and believed Atletico should have been down to ten too.

One fan claimed that Kyogo needed to force the referee into making a decision, just like other “top sides”.

This fan claimed the decision wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the game and believed Celtic have other priorities.

This fan claimed the Japanese international needed to go down “like he was shot” and the team needed to “wise up” on the continent.

This fan questioned the very state of the same after the conflicting decision from the referee.

This supporter claimed Barrios’ challenge on Kyogo was worse than Maeda’s red card offence and blasted the inconsistent use of VAR.

This can claimed Barrios’ challenge was as much a red as Maeda’s.

This fan took aim at Kyogo himself and described his actions as “school boy stuff” for not attempting to get Barrios sent off.

This fan claimed the tackle could have kept Kyogo on the sidelines for a while but claimed the officials were not attempting to “hide the match fixing”.
