Agbonlahor: Aston Villa told to raid Celtic for 'exceptional' Edouard after £8m development

Gabby Agbonlahor has told Aston Villa to try and sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer revealed he is a big fan of the “outstanding” Frenchman and tipped him to be a huge success in England if he moves south.

This site revealed last week there is hope in Edouard’s camp he can secure a move away from Parkhead for as little as £8million in the upcoming transfer window.

The 23-year-old will only have a season left on his Celtic contract by then and he has failed to reach his previous heights for the Hoops this term.

He is still the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer with 16 goals in 26 games but last season he found the net 21 times and provided 12 assists in 27 league outings.

The Glasgow giants slashed £15million off their asking price for the striker in January to £25million.

Asked for his assessment of the latest development, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They’ll be a bidding war for him.

“If I was Villa, I’d be taking £8million in cash up to Celtic Park and saying ‘Can we have him please?’

“I rate him highly, I think he’d be outstanding in the Premier League and a real threat.

“He’s going to be a player in demand and whoever gets him is going to be very lucky.”

Edouard has scored 81 times and provided 36 assists in 161 games across all competitions from Celtic since his move from Paris Saint-Germain, initially on loan, in 2017.

He helped the club achieve a domestic treble for three consecutive seasons before this campaign.

In other news, Celtic could be set for a “devastating” player blow before this weekend’s clash with Rangers.
