Agbonlahor: Celtic tipped to sign the next Dembele after Taylor reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Celtic to land the “next Moussa Dembele” as well as pursue the permanent signing of Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Aston Villa striker claimed Southampton’s £5million asking price would represent a “bargain” for the Hoops.

Elyounoussi scored a brace in Celtic’s 6-0 win over Livingston on Saturday taking his goal tally for the season to 15 and he also has six assists.

Greg Taylor told the Daily Record he wanted the Norway international to stay at Parkhead and he is a popular member of the dressing room.

Football Insider revealed in February Southampton’s asking price for Elyounoussi had crashed to just £5million.

The Premier League outfit wanted between £8million and £10million last summer but could not find a buyer before loaning him back out to Celtic.

Asked whether the Glasgow giants should look to secure the 26-year-old on a permanent deal, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent: 100 per cent.

“He’s a very good player. His name stands out.

“I’ve watched him a few times and he’s a very good player. He can score goals and get assists.

“For £5million, it would be a bargain.

“I’m sure Celtic will not be looking at big, big signings. They’ll try and pull off another Moussa Dembele or Odsonne Edouard out from somewhere in France.

“Maybe that’s something they’ll be looking to do.”

Elyounoussi now has 22 goals and 12 assists in 62 games for Celtic across all competitions after initially signing on loan in 2019.

He managed just 19 appearances, including 11 starts, in his only season at parent club Southampton.

In other news, Celtic could be set for a “devastating” player blow before this weekend’s clash with Rangers.
