Newcastle United could still sign Jorginho amid 'incredible' claim - pundit

Frank McAvennie has backed Jorginho to fit in at Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said any player would fit into the Newcastle team at the moment.

According to the Daily Mail (27 December), the Magpies could move to acquire the 31-year-old in the January window ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.

Graham Potter is said to be keen on reducing the average age of his squad with Jorginho one of the players that could be shipped out.

Football Insider revealed this week (28 December) that the north-east giants have ruled out the signing of Jorginho as he is considered too old for their project.

When asked if Newcastle could still consider a move for Jorginho, McAvennie told Football Insider:I think Eddie Howe has got them believing in themselves so much that anyone would fit into that club.

It is a joy to watch them. They have been so far removed from any talk of titles or Europe or winning anything. They have not been close to anything for as long as I can remember.

To see them now with a team and a manager who believes in the players and the players believe in the manager, it is just incredible.

The whole city is galvanised and I think anyone could go there and play.

Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli back in 2018 for a fee of around £57million.

The defensive midfielder could be available to the Magpies for free in the summer if they choose not to look for a deal in January.
