Revealed: Significant update on Newcastle United signing Jorginho after offer made - Sources

Newcastle United have ruled out the signing of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder, 31, was offered to the Magpies with the player entering the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and yet to agree an extension.

It is believed that Newcastle have considered a potential making a move for the Italy international but have decided not to pursue a deal as he is too old for their project.

The club prefer to sign players under the age of 30.

Kieran Trippier, 32, and Dan Burn, 30, were signed last January though the club were in a dire situation and faced the very real prospect of relegation, limiting their transfer options.

Jorginho remains an important player at Stamford Bridge, starting 12 of the Blues’ 15 Premier League games this season.

He started as Chelsea resumed their domestic season with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday (27 December).

The Italy international has also captained his side on six occasions this season though all of those were under former boss Thomas Tuchel.

He also remains on penalty duties and has scored three goals in all competitions this season.

Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff have been Eddie Howe’s midfield three of choice in recent games with Joelinton restored to the left wing.

The Magpies have now won six straight Premier League games after beating Leicester 3-0 on Boxing Day.

Newcastle are next in action against Leeds United on New Year’s Eve.
