Sources: Big update on Man City pursuit of Eberechi Eze

Man City continue to monitor the situation of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze despite failing to land him during the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The treble-winners were instead forced to move for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, who joined Pep Guardiola’s side in the final throes of the summer window.

But Man City remain keen on Eze, who is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Football Insider revealed on 26 August that the midfielder is valued by Crystal Palace at around £70million.

Sources say Guardiola and City sporting director Txiki Begiristain are both “huge admirers” of the versatile attacking midfielder.

The England international has recently suffered a hamstring injury which ruled out his inclusion in the latest Three Lions squad.

According to the London Evening Standard (3 October), he could be out until mid-November with the problem.

Eze has made nine appearances across all competitions this season, notching one goal and two assists.

He notched 10 goals and four assists in 40 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign as Palace recorded a mid-table finish.

The 25-year-old joined the Eagles from Queens Park Rangers in 2020 and has gone on to become a key player for the club, notching 20 goals and 13 assists in 112 appearances.

Eze has also broken through for England at senior level, making two appearances for Gareth Southgate’s side – including in the friendly win over Scotland last month.

Man City sit third in the Premier League after back-to-back losses against Wolves and Arsenal.

Crystal Palace sit ninth in the table despite the absences of Eze and fellow star man Michael Olise.

In other news, Man City could now accept midfielder offer after U-turn.
