Sources: Talks underway as Man United shortlist three new signings

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland is on a shortlist of three goalkeepers Man United are targeting to sign this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Palace at the end of the season and they will listen to offers for him this month to avoid losing him for free in the summer.

United are in the market for a new goalkeeper to provide cover for number one David de Gea after Martin Dubravka cut short his loan stay from Newcastle United earlier this month.

It is believed they have compiled a list of three keepers and have registered their interest in them.

Talks are underway as United step up plans to complete an early-window deal.

Newcastle confirmed Dubravka’s return to St James’ Park on Sunday (1 January), with the Slovakia international making just two League Cup appearances during his time at Old Trafford.

He made the bench for the Magpies against Arsenal on Tuesday (3 January) despite them now having five goalkeepers on their books.

Meanwhile, Man United have veteran shot-stopper Tom Heaton, 36, to call on should De Gea suffer an injury or pick up a suspension.

Butland, who has nine caps for England, is yet to make an appearance for Palace this season having spent most of the campaign out with a fractured finger.

The former Stoke ace stepped in for Vicente Guaita on nine occasions last term, conceding 13 goals and keeping one clean sheet.

Man United star De Gea is expecting to extend his Old Trafford stay – which is currently set to end in June – as the club prepare to offer him a pay cut.

The Red Devils sit fourth in the Premier League after success across the festive period.
