Sources: Everton plot January midfielder signing, Dyche to hand unexpected star No10 role

Everton could move for a new central midfielder in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that an addition in the middle of the park could be a priority for the Merseysiders – who have unexpectedly moved Abdoulaye Doucoure into a more advanced, number 10 role in the 2023-24 campaign.

Doucoure has thrived in his new role, notching four goals and one assist across 15 appearances in all competitions.

But his move has left Everton short in central midfield and Sean Dyche is keen to put that right in the transfer market – either in January or next summer.

Also weighing on the Toffees is a potential exit for Amadou Onana, who is one of the most saleable assets at Goodison Park and a target for elite Premier League sides.

Central midfield is not the only priority identified by Dyche ahead of the new year.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (17 November) that the ex-Burnley boss wants to bring two new wingers to the club in January.

He has mandated his recruitment chiefs to scour the market for potential signings – but the final call will come from prospective owners 777 Partners if their takeover clears.

Alongside Onana, Everton also have Idrissa Gueye, James Garner, and Tyler Onyango to call on in central midfield.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (4 November) that Everton are planning to let Andre Gomes leave the club in 2024.

The Portugal international has not played for the Merseysiders since May 2022.

Dyche’s side are now 19th in the Premier League despite winning four games this season after they were docked 10 points for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

In other news, Everton striker talks could open in weeks.
