Agbonlahor: Everton fans are set to turn on 'disrespectful' Benitez after what I've heard

The “honeymoon is over” at Everton for Rafa Benitez, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed the Everton fans will turn on Benitez if they lose their next two games.

The Blues suffered a humiliating 5-2 defeat to Watford at Goodison Park last weekend.

Boos rang around the ground when Anthony Gordon was substituted just after the hour mark with the scores 1-1.

Asked what went wrong against Watford, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It was dodgy defending.

“They were going too gung-ho to get a goal back. Every goal they lost, they threw another man forward.

“They were disrespecting Watford’s attack, leaving King one-on-one and Denis. They’re still dangerous players. They got what they deserved.

“The honeymoon’s over for Rafa. A couple of more bad results and I feel the Everton fans will start turning. They need to get better.

“King, as an ex-player, you want to do well against the club that didn’t give you a chance. He said he was up for the game even more and it showed.

Gordon was having a good game and the Everton fans at the game said he was doing well.

“It was strange to bring him off, especially with Rondon on the pitch and hadn’t done anything.

“You see a lot of other teams now when they’ve not got a striker available, they play without a striker. Maybe that’s something Everton should look at.

“Especially if Rondon’s performances don’t get better, you can keep the likes of Gordon on, Richarlison through the middle, with the likes of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray. I think that’s what Everton fans would prefer.”
