Man United news: Pundit shocked by Bruno Fernandes decision after confirmed news - 'disgraceful'

Frank McAvennie can’t believe Aleksandar Mitrovic was handed a ban whilst Bruno Fernandes escaped punishment when Man United faced Fulham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker supported the decision to award Mitrovic a lengthy ban but claimed Fernandes should have faced similar consequences.

Mitrovic was handed an eight-game ban by an independent commission following his red card for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh in their FA Cup loss to Man United.

The Fulham striker was handed a three-match ban for the initial sending off, three for violent conduct and an additional two for “improper, abusive, insulting and threatening” language.

As shown on Sky Sports last month, in the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool Bruno Fernandes appears to shove the linesman when trying to get the ball back in play.

Whilst McAvennie agreed with the decision to penalise Mitrovic, he insisted Fernandes should have suffered a similar fate.

You can’t lift your hand to the referees I am all for that,” he told Football Insider.

But what about Fernandes? He shoved the linesman. It is the same thing but nothing got done. Disgraceful. What is all that about?

I do not get it, it is like VAR, one rule for someone and one rule for others.

Fernandes is like a petulant wee boy. It is strange how they can have rules for some and not for others. They have got to be consistent.

I think in hindsight Mitrovic will be gutted, I get the heat of the moment but you can’t lift your hands to referees.
