Liverpool told to complete 'early' Joao Palhinha deal after '£60m' reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Liverpool to wrap up a deal for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha “early” in the summer window after his impressive breakthrough this term.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 27-year-old would be a clear upgrade on the likes of Fabinho.

According to the Daily Mail (12 March), Liverpool are the “most serious suitor” for Fulham star Palhinha after his impressive first season in the Premier League.

The report claims the Cottagers value the Portugal international at £60million as interest grows in the former Sporting CP midfielder.

According to FBref, Palhinha has made the most tackles (101) of any Premier League player so far this season.

Liverpool defensive midfielder Fabinho has come in for criticism from fans and pundits alike for his performances in a below-par 2022-23 campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think he’s a better version of Fabinho.

“I’ve watched him for Fulham and for Portugal, and he’s a very talented player.

“He’s everywhere – making tackles, interceptions, and he’s good on the ball as well.

“If I were Liverpool, I would get this deal done and dusted early doors this summer.

“He’s such a physical presence, and he’s got a lot more legs and fight than anyone else in that current midfield.

“He can come in and instantly improve that midfield.”

Liverpool sit sixth in the Premier League – six points adrift of fourth-place Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification.

Palhinha has played all but three of Fulham’s top-flight fixtures this season.
