Sources: Wilfried Gnonto is 'unhappy' at Leeds United

Wilfried Gnonto is unhappy with his situation at Leeds United as the January transfer window approaches, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old, who has recently returned from injury, played just one minute as a substitute during last week’s (3 October) win over Leicester.

Gnonto has started just one of Leeds’ last four Championship games as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke has been happy to keep the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Dan James and Joel Piroe together as an attacking unit – and has so far seen no reason to bring the Italy international back into the fold permanently.

But Gnonto wants to play regular first-team football as he targets a place in the Azzurri’s squad for next year’s European Championships in Germany – should they qualify.

It is believed there will be interest once again in the winger’s services in the January window.

Football Insider revealed last week (1 November) that Premier League clubs have a strong interest in Leeds trio Gnonto, Summerville and Ethan Ampadu as the mid-season window approaches.

Gnonto was one of several Whites stars who went on strike in a bid to secure a move in the summer but was eventually reintegrated into Farke’s squad.

But he has managed just one goal and one assist in 10 games across all competitions this season.

The 20-year-old missed four games with an ankle injury which also saw him miss Italy’s crucial qualifiers against Malta and England.

His contract at Elland Road is set to run until June 2027 following his arrival at the club last year (2022).

He managed four goals and four assists for Leeds last term but couldn’t prevent their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Whites are next in action against Plymouth on Saturday (11 November).
