Campbell shares bold Bamford prediction and slams Rodrigo after early Leeds team news

Kevin Campbell has claimed Patrick Bamford will be crucial if Leeds United are to avoid a second season slump in the Premier League.

The former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Rodrigo’s disappointing 2020/21 campaign has piled the pressure on the 27-year-old Englishman.

The Spaniard scored seven Premier League goals last season, in comparison to Bamford’s 17.

The Whites eventually finished ninth in their first season back in the top flight.

Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match conference, manager Marcelo Bielsa insisted he is “happy” with his squad ahead of this month’s transfer deadline.

Campbell insisted Bamford would be under serious pressure to deliver if there are no new additions.

He told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “It will be different for Leeds this season.

They were a bit of an unknown quantity last season, whereas some teams may have just figured them out now.

“I can’t see them finishing as high as ninth again – but I will never say never. They play such an offensive game.

“The one key to them doing well is Bamford. He has to have the same type of season that he had last season.

“Rodrigo hasn’t done as well as they had hoped, so Bamford has to do a lot for this Leeds team.”

Junior Firpo and Kristoffer Klaesson have been Leeds’ only senior summer signings so far.

However, Football Insider have revealed Whites target Lewis O’Brien has told Huddersfield he wants to leave this month.

In other news, Noel Whelan has been left buzzing over “electric” Leeds United youngster in pre-season.
