Phillips: Leeds tipped to submit multiple bids within days for Ryan Kent and Rangers 'ready to sell'

Kevin Phillips is predicting multiple Leeds United bids for Rangers star Ryan Kent in the next seven days.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted as the Gers lost 2-1 to Malmo on Tuesday.

Rangers’ Champions League exit leaves a significant hole in their finances.

According to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay (August 4th), fans should ‘not discount’ the possibility of the Yorkshire giants reigniting their pursuit of Kent in this window.

Leeds failed with numerous bids for the winger 12 months ago but Marcelo Bielsa remains a big fan of the player.

Phillips claims a “cheeky bid” could even arrive at Ibrox within the next week with Rangers needing to sell.

“This Kent to Leeds stuff has been rumbling on for a while, he’s a brilliant player on his day,” Phillips told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Now is the time, I think they have been waiting in the background for something like this to happen.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if a bid comes in for him over the next seven days with Rangers’ finance problems.

“I think they will whack in a cheeky bid to gauge where Rangers might value him. Then a serious bid may follow.

“I think Kent would jump at the chance to come to the Premier League, especially Leeds.

“If Rangers can get good money for him, they will. It’s not ideal but based on how they have started a new bid may be too hard to turn down.

“I think they are ready to sell.”

Kent has made 128 appearances for Rangers and scored 27 goals since initially joining on loan from Liverpool in 2018.

He has two years remaining on his current Ibrox deal.
