Pundit: Premier League club will appoint Brendan Rodgers as manager after Leicester City reveal

Noel Whelan has claimed Brendan Rodgers could “walk into a lot of Premier League jobs” even if he were to get the sack at Leicester.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 49-year-old has proven himself to be a “very good manager” after his “incredible journey” with the Foxes.

As quoted by talkSPORT (7 October), Rodgers revealed he “twice” had the opportunity to leave the King Power Stadium but chose to remain loyal to Leicester.

He conceded he “isn’t owed anything” despite his display of loyalty to the Midlands club.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (5 October) that Leicester are considering appointing Rafael Benitez as a successor to under-pressure Rodgers.

The former Celtic boss may have bought some time with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Monday (3 October).

Whelan suggested Rodgers may have lifted the lid on interest from other clubs in order to persuade fans he is the right man for the job.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s no doubt that he’s a very good manager.

“It’s been a great period for Leicester. Winning the league before he came in, and then he won the FA Cup and Charity Shield.

“It’s been an incredible journey for Rodgers and the players.

“He’s now just relieving this stress and explaining to the fans about how he stuck with the club – and now he wants them to stick with him.

“We saw against Forest – when they’re at it they are a great side with exceptional individuals like Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

“Hopefully that momentum and belief can allow them to string some wins together.

“I’m sure, even if he was sacked at Leicester, he’s someone that could walk into a lot of Premier League jobs.”
