Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp will be 'uncomfortable' after Mohamed Salah update - pundit

Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah will be growing restless amid constant speculation about the forward’s future at Liverpool, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Reds duo will keep their “cards close to the chest” even if progress is made on a new contract.

As revealed by Football Insider this month (9 April), Liverpool chiefs were confident of a breakthrough in talks with Salah, 29, willing to compromise on his £500,000-a-week wage demands.

Speaking to FourFourTwo last week (22 April), Salah, whose current terms expire in June 2023, claimed “everything is not about the money” in negotiations.

Jurgen Klopp, who signed a fresh four-year deal at Anfield yesterday (28 April), revealed he doesn’t expect his extended Liverpool stay will have any bearing on the Egyptian’s future.

McLeish suggested tensions are rising on Merseyside with no end in sight to the contract saga.

“You can see they’re uncomfortable talking about these kinds of things,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“Salah and Klopp just want to go out there and talk to the interviewer about positive things. That’s the dream interview.

“But these questions have to be asked. Everybody wants to know in advance, but Liverpool are very good at keeping their privacy tight and their cards close to their chest.”

Salah has notched 30 goals and 14 assists in 44 Liverpool appearances this term.

Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are also out of contract next summer.
