Liverpool news: '£20m' transfer claim issued after source's Divock Origi reveal - pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Liverpool are set to lose a £20million player in Divock Origi this summer.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Reds could have demanded a “premium” for the 27-year-old were he not out of contract this summer.

A recruitment source told Football Insider last month (23 March) that Origi is set to leave Anfield on a free transfer, with no talks over an extension, and has three contract offers on the table.

A recruitment source told this site (19 March) that the Belgium international wants to leave in pursuit of more regular game time.

Hutton insisted Origi still has “a lot to give” wherever he goes this summer.

Asked how much Origi would be worth if he was not a free agent, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That’s a difficult one. It’s all depends on how much someone’s willing to spend on you.

“If you’ve got a couple of years left, a good age, at one of the top teams, a striker? That comes with a premium. What are we talking, £20million?

“I think he’s still got a lot to give. It’s been difficult that he’s been in such a good team. The front three have been that good for so many seasons on a run.

“It has been difficult for him. He has held his own and he has come up with big moments of his own. He will be held in high regard with the Liverpool fans.”

Origi has only started five times in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.

He has scored six goals, including the second in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Everton.
