Sources: Leeds United given permission to hold Calvin Ramsay talks by Aberdeen
Leeds United have been granted permission to hold talks with Aberdeen sensation Calvin Ramsay as they plot a multi-million pound signing, Football Insider understands.
The Premier League club are working on a deal to land the right-back, 18, amid competition from Liverpool.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Aberdeen are ready to cash in on Ramsay this summer to raise some much-needed funds and have given Leeds the green light to talk to to him.
But the Dons intend to hold out for a “significant” seven-figure fee for the teenager and newly-crowned Scottish young player of the year.
Leeds are keen to steal a march on Premier League rivals to sign Ramsay and are looking to lure him with a major pay rise as well as the promise of a first-team pathway.
Negotiations are set to centre on contractual terms as well as how United see the youngster fitting into their first-team squad.
Ramsay will be aware how well Scottish right-back Nathan Patterson joined Everton from Rangers in January for an initial £12million and is still waiting for his Premier League debut.
That could benefit Leeds compared to rival suitors Liverpool.
Their first choice right-back is Trent Alexander-Arnold, a contender for the Premier League player of the year as well as a player Jurgen Klopp has claimed is the best in his position in Europe.
Liverpool are in the market for an understudy to the England star, a position that has been shared by Joe Gomez and James Miller following Neco Williams’ loan move to Fulham.
Ramsay has had an outstanding season at Aberdeen and is firmly established as their first choice right-back.
He has already played 38 times for the club, including 32 in the current campaign.
