Everton hero points the finger at Alisson Becker as Liverpool controversy analysed

Kevin Campbell has slammed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for complaining about Jordan Pickford’s time-wasting.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker has “no problem” with Pickford’s actions at Anfield and pointed to the fact they were copied by Alisson Becker in the second half.

As shown on Sky Sports (24 April), Pickford took his time when he received the ball in the first half of Sunday’s Merseyside derby.

As quoted by Eurosport (25 April), Klopp complained about the amount of time the Toffees shot-stopper was taking on the ball.

Liverpool’s boss said the England number one was taking “five minutes” each time he got the ball which prevented his side from gaining a rhythm.

Campbell pointed to the fact Alisson did exactly the same as Pickford in the 90th minute, when the Reds were 2-0 up.

“That is what football is sometimes about,” he told Football Insider.

“You are going to use up the time when necessary. Liverpool are like a whirlwind at times. Teams need to slow it down against them to give their players a chance to get into position.

“I have no problem with that, that’s football. What’s interesting is that Alisson does it as well… I think it’s fine though. It’s a bit a bit of banter. Alisson was turning the tables on Pickford. I get all of that.

“Complaining about it though? Come on. You cannot complain about that in the first half.”
