Sources: Everton make approach to sign Heaton

Everton have made contact with Man United over a possible deal for veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton, sources have told Football Insider.

The 37-year-old has been the subject of a few other enquiries so far this summer, with newly-promoted Luton Town also ready to bring him to Kenilworth Road.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Man United are not prepared to sanction an exit for Heaton amid uncertainty over the future of David De Gea.

The Spaniard has rejected the club’s latest contract offer and could walk away from Old Trafford for free when his deal expires on Friday (30 June).

That situation has left Heaton in limbo with several clubs chasing his signature.

Everton boss Sean Dyche, who managed the former England international at Burnley, is keen to reunite with the shot-stopper this summer.

The Toffees move comes after Asmir Begovic walked away from Goodison Park at the end of his contract.

Meanwhile, Luton are keen to make Heaton their first-choice goalkeeper as they search for an experienced number one.

Heaton made two appearances for Man United in their League Cup-winning campaign last term, keeping two clean sheets.

He has made just three total appearances for the club since joining in July 2021.

The former Burnley and Cardiff man has a wealth of experience in English football, racking up 343 total career games and playing in each of the top four leagues.

Heaton, who stands at 6ft 2in, has made three England appearances – last turning out for his country in 2017.

Man United also have Dean Henderson on the books following his return from a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest.

Jack Butland has already joined Rangers after leaving Old Trafford as a free agent.
