Sources: West Ham expect to now sign Maguire after new talks in last hours

West Ham are hopeful of landing long-term target Harry Maguire in the last week of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Irons have reignited talks over a deal for Maguire, 30, after a potential deal collapsed earlier this month.

They remain keen on the player despite already moving for Stuttgart centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos last week.

West Ham were close to landing the England international for a fee of around £30million before he decided to remain a Man United player.

Football Insider revealed on 18 July that ex-Man United captain Maguire wants his £10million-a-year Red Devils contract to be paid up before he quits.

Maguire has just under two years left to run on his deal at Man United.

The ex-Leicester defender is yet to play a single minute in the 2023-24 campaign.

He has racked up 175 appearances for the club since joining for a reported £80million in 2019, but was stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag earlier this summer.

Maguire has started just 16 times since the Dutchman’s arrival last summer (2022) and is clearly unfancied by the ex-Ajax coach.

It is believed an exit for the England star could hold the key to Man United making more signings in the remainder of the transfer window, which shuts on Friday (1 September).

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (19 August) that Ten Hag’s side are still keen to sign a defender and midfielder before the transfer deadline.

Man United have picked up six points from their opening three Premier League games this term.

The Red Devils came from behind to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday (26 August) – with Maguire an unused substitute.
