Ryan Fraser: Kenny issues 'massive' Newcastle United verdict

Ryan Fraser could be a “really important” player for Newcastle after grabbing his first goal for the club, accoridng to Paddy Kenny.

The former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed new boy Kieran Trippier could help coax the best out of the 27-year-old.

Fraser netted his first Newcastle goal on Tuesday (8 February), stuffing home the second goal in the Magpies’ 3-1 victory over Everton.

Speaking to NUFC TV post-match, the midfielder said he “feels like I’m playing with a monster beside me” when alongside Trippier in Eddie Howe’s line-up.

Kenny suggested Fraser is not the only Newcastle star starting to hit their stride in recent weeks.

“I like Ryan, he’s a good little player,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s finally got that goal, and I’m sure that’ll give him a massive amount of confidence.

“If he can now find his best form then he can be a really important part of that side. Watching them in these last two games I feel like they’re all starting to come into their own under Eddie Howe.

“Trippier has come in as well, and he can work with Fraser down that right-hand side. He can really bring the best out of others and that’s what he looks to be doing.”

Newcastle lifted themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone with Tuesday’s victory.

The Magpies face Aston Villa on Sunday with the chance of moving four points clear of the drop zone.
