Dan Ashworth's 'inside information' could help Newcastle land top target after Romano update - pundit

Dan Ashworth could help Newcastle United land the signing of Brighton’s Yves Bissouma this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The ex-Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Magpies could use Ashworth’s “inside information” to land Bissouma this summer.

Bissouma, 25, has entered the final 18 months of his contract with the Seagulls.

According to Craig Hope (23 January), Newcastle United are one of many Premier League clubs who have made the Mali international a top target.

According to Fabrizio Romano (7 February), there is an agreement in place for Dan Ashworth to become the new technical director at St. James’ Park.

It comes after the 50-year-old resigned from his position as Brighton’s technical director on Monday.

When asked by Football Insider if the arrival of Ashworth on Tyneside could help Newcastle land Bissouma, Campbell said:

“Look, Dan Ashworth would give Newcastle a better chance of getting Bissouma, you can’t deny that.

“He is going to be available for a move in the summer because of his contract situation and there is going to be a lot of clubs after him. All of the clubs in the race for him will have the money so it will be an interesting one.

“Dan Ashworth has the inside information, the inside scoop if you like. That will not always lead to a deal but it will certainly help Newcastle if they really want the player.”
