Sources: Brennan Johnson expects to be a Tottenham player after new talks

Brennan Johnson expects to be a Tottenham player by the end of deadline day, sources have told Football Insider.

The Nottingham Forest attacker has agreed terms with the London giants and made it clear he wants to quit the City Ground and join them ahead of any other suitors.

Tottenham have held extensive talks with Forest over a deal for Johnson, 22, and those discussions will continue on Friday morning (1 September).

Sources say the sticking point has been the structure of the deal and the sum of the down payment, with Forest holding out for £45-50million for their prize asset.

That fee would represent a new club-record departure for the Midlands club.

Nevertheless, there is a growing expectation that a deal can be done following the latest negotiations.

Johnson has been hugely impressed by the plan for his development outlined by Ange Postecoglou and feels he can develop into a top-tier player under the Australian.

He has already made four appearances this term but is yet to score or assist.

The Wales international made 44 appearances across all competitions for Forest last term, netting ten goals and offering up three assists in those outings.

Johnson is under contract at the City Ground until June 2026 after signing a bumper extension at his boyhood club last year (2022).

Tottenham, who have completed eight deals in the summer window, lost club legend and talisman Harry Kane earlier this summer.

Postecoglou’s side have picked up seven points from three league games this term but were dumped out of the League Cup by Fulham earlier this week.
