Sources: Brennan Johnson could now join Tottenham due to FFP

Tottenham are in pole position to land Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson in the next week, sources have told Football Insider.

Chelsea are also interested in the 22-year-old Wales international.

Johnson was a key part of the side that kept Forest in the Premier League last season but could be sold by the Midlands club in the final days of the transfer window.

It is believed Steve Cooper’s side have Financial Fair Play concerns after their mega-money splurge on new signings in the 2022-23 campaign.

Nottingham Forest are hoping to rake in a big fee for Johnson – which could be in excess of £40million, a new club-record departure.

And as the forward is a product of the club’s academy, any potential fee would be considered pure profit in the club’s books.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (25 August) that Johnson has told friends he is keen to join Tottenham.

The Lilywhites have been keeping close tabs on the super-quick attacker for some time and their scouts have been hugely impressed.

Johnson made 44 appearances across all competitions for Forest last term, netting ten goals and offering up three assists in those outings.

His contract at the City Ground is set to run until June 2026 after signing a bumper extension at his boyhood club last year (2022).

Tottenham have lined up with Richarlison in attack in each of their three Premier League games this season following the exit of Harry Kane.
