Huddersfield Town news: Ex-Premier League referee hits out after 'criminal' Jon Moss twist

Keith Hackett has slammed the “very small minority” of Huddersfield Town fans who have damaged Jon Moss’ record shop in Leeds.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed the PGMOL should not appoint officials to games involving teams in their local area.

The Daily Star reported last week (1 June) that Moss’ record shop in Headingley has been damaged and police are investigating death threats.

In Huddersfield’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in last month’s Championship play-off final the 51-year-old’s performance came under scrutiny.

He denied Huddersfield two strong calls for a penalty towards the end of the game and Forest held on to earn promotion to the Premier League and a £170million windfall.

“This is abject nonsense,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“This highlights something I’ve said in the past. What the PGMOL has done in the past is to try to not indicate where a referee lives.

“In my era, the programme read Keith Hackett (Sheffield) and very occasionally when I went to referee Leeds I’d get booed because of the history.

“This highlights for me, the danger in refereeing. Like Anthony Taylor refereeing Man City against Man United. There’s always the potential of a very small minority doing something to Jon Moss and his record shop which is totally and utterly unacceptable.

“It’s a criminal offence and will be dealt with by the police.”

Nottingham Forest’s win means they will play in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years in the 2022-23 campaign.

Huddersfield are now facing their fifth consecutive season in the Championship.

In other news, Huddersfield Town are in advanced talks to sign a forward wanted by Sheffield Wednesday.
