Ex-Premier League referee: Steve Cook may be hit with FA punishment as controversial Nottingham Forest footage emerges
Steve Cook may receive a letter from the FA after his controversial comments as Nottingham Forest celebrated their return to the Premier League in the city centre last week (30 May), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee delivered his verdict after footage emerged of Cook hailing Jon Moss as the hero of their play-off final triumph.
As relayed in a video by Nottinghamshire Live, the 31-year-old thanked Moss and VAR for their performance in the 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Wembley (29 May).
Moss, 51, has come under intense scrutiny in his final ever game as a professional referee for denying Huddersfield two strong calls for penalties.
The Terriers felt aggrieved when Harry Toffolo was shown a yellow card for simulation after a challenge by Jack Colback in the Forest penalty area.
Moments later they were denied another penalty for a challenge by Max Lowe on Lewis O’Brien.
Asked for his reaction to the video of Cook, Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If that comment gets into the hands of the FA, the FA might decide they are going to send him a letter asking for his comments.
“There are a few of those flying around at the moment.”
Forest’s win means they are set to compete in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.
Huddersfield are set for a fourth consecutive season in the Championship after ending a two-year stay in the top flight in 2019.
