Clarke-Harris will choose Rangers over Championship move after DoF admission - Phillips

Jonson Clarke-Harris would choose to move to Rangers over a high-flying Championship club.

That’s according to former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ interest in the Peterborough striker.

Last month, this site revealed that Rangers had sent scouts to watch Clarke-Harris on the day he netted a hat-trick against Accrington Stanley as Posh ran riot and picked up a 7-0 win.

Clarke-Harris, 26, has been in electric form this season and leads the League One goalscoring charts after netting 27 goals in 40 outings.

Phillips claims the lure of Champions League football could help to sway Clarke-Harris towards an Ibrox switch this summer with Rangers guaranteed to feature in Europe’s premier competition next season.

When asked if Clarke-Harris would join Rangers over a top Championship club, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “I think he would to be honest.

“If you go there you’re going to be playing European football and in a team that is going to be creating chances week in week out and winning those games every week.

“If I was in his position, I would certainly look at Rangers. There’s going to be crowds in there next year and Ibrox is one hell of a place to play football.

“He would opt for Rangers over a Championship side that’s pushing for promotion.”

Clarke-Harris is the latest striker to make a name for themselves at London Road after Ivan Toney impressed last season and moved to Championship high-flyers Brentford.

In March, Posh Director of Football Barry Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph, “Rangers have been to a lot of our matches this season and they were there on Saturday (v Accrington).

In other Ibrox news, Rangers have been urged to raise the issue of a release clause in “huge” new contract deal.
