Hutton names the two 'exceptional' Celtic players who can end Rangers double dream

John Kennedy dropped a major hint over his Celtic team selection against Rangers by switching formations for the win over Livingston, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 4-3-3 brought the very best out of the likes of Mohamed Elyounoussi and James Forrest.

Both wingers got on the scoresheet in last weekend’s 6-0 win in what was a confidence-boosting performance ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie.

The only concern for Kennedy was Forrest limping off just before the hour mark with a stiff back and tight hamstring.

The Hoops’ interim boss has since confirmed he may have to make a last-minute decision on the Scotland winger.

Hutton suggested that if everyone is fit, Kennedy will name an unchanged starting XI.

“He switched formation, went back to a 4-3-3 and I think it just suited them,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“My opinion is he had one eye on the Rangers game and how he wanted to set up, and that’s what he was looking at. Everything did click.

“Elyounoussi, that’s the player that Celtic fans want to see week in, week out. He was exceptional.

“James Forrest, since he’s come back, has been unplayable at times.

“I think the only downside is he went off with tightness. How bad it is, we’re not so sure.

“I think that’s the setup and that’s the team that we’ll see if everyone’s fit against Rangers at the weekend.”
