Sources: Billy Sharp jets out to sign for LA Galaxy after Sheffield United exit

Former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp is flying out to the United States on Saturday night (12 August) to finalise a move to LA Galaxy, sources have told Football Insider.

The 37-year-old striker left Bramall Lane following the expiry of his contract in June.

Sharp will pen a one-year contract in Los Angeles with the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

Sharp finished the 2022-23 season with two league goals as Sheffield United won promotion back to the Premier League.

He made 39 appearances last term, 38 of which came in the Championship.

Boyhood Blade Sharp has an outstanding record in the second-tier – having found the net 130 times in 399 Championship games.

In 2019, the veteran striker became the leading English-born goalscorer in 21st-century English professional football in overtaking the record set by ex-teammate Rickie Lambert.

Sharp – who has managed 266 career goals – returned to Sheffield United in 2015.

He has scored 129 goals for the club in 377 games across all competitions, helping them to three promotions.

The striker played a part in the Blades’ last stint in the Premier League before relegation in the 2020-21 season, during which he scored three goals in 16 league games.

Sharp’s LA Galaxy move will be the first time he plays for a club outside of England.
