Kieran Maguire drops verdict on £170m Sheffield United takeover development

Prince Abdullah’s £170million asking price to sell Sheffield United is a reasonable valuation for a takeover.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the ‘credibility’ of United’s takeover price tag.

As reported by Bloomberg, United’s owner has told potential bidders that he wants £170million in order to sell his stake in the Yorkshire club.

Prince Abdullah bought a 50 per cent stake in the Blades in 2013 before also purchasing the shares of former co-owner Kevin McCabe.

However, the Saudi Arabian now wants to sell his stake in the club and is willing to listen to offers that meet his nine-figure asking price.

Maguire believes the value of Bournemouth’s takeover last December means the asking price for Sheffield United is reasonable.

We saw Bournemouth sold less than 12 months ago for £100million and they have a smaller stadium than Sheffield United,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

So the £170m asking price, provided it contains all the assets involved with the club, does have some credibility.

Sheffield United will have one year’s worth of Premier League money as a minimum and a further two years of parachute payments.

Any prospective owner will take that into consideration.

Although, experience tells us that although clubs have more money coming in as a Premier League side, they also have a lot more going out in terms of transfer spending and wage expectations.
