Kenny tips Sheffield United fan favourite for recall v Stoke after Baldock update

Paddy Kenny has tipped Chris Basham to replace George Baldock in the Sheffield United starting XI against Stoke City on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Blades keeper suggested Slavisa Jokanovic would go for the 33-year-old’s experience over 21-year-old Jayden Bgle.

Speaking at his press conference on Thursday (14th October), Jokanovic confirmed Baldock is a doubt for Saturday’s home game against the Potters.

The right-back limped off shortly after half time in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth prior to the international break.

Fan favourite Basham, a natural centre-back, replaced the former MK Dons man against the Cherries.

Baldock has started all 11 of United’s Championship fixtures this season.

However, with the experienced defender potentially out of action, Kenny tipped Basham to get the nod.

“He’s (Baldock) a key player, isn’t he?” Kenny told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He’s been in that team now for quite a while. Hopefully, he won’t be out and he’ll be available for selection at the weekend.

“If not, do you go back to the experience again? Obviously the most natural one would be to stick Bogle in there.

“But he hasn’t been playing when there have been players out. I think Basham would play, for me. It’ll be interesting to see what the manager thinks.”

Basham has started four times in six league appearances this season.

Meanwhile, natural right-back Bogle has featured just twice in the Championship under Jokanovic.

United sit 14th in the table after 11 games, with Stoke nine points ahead in fourth place.

In other news, Kenny claims Sheffield United are set for a big boost after Jokanovic training reveal.
