Man City expected to only sanction Liam Delap exit on one condition after bid reported - pundit

Alan Hutton suspects Man City would rather send Liam Delap on loan than sell the player this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa defender claimed Pep Guardiola wouldn’t let the 19-year-old leave the club permanently “for cheap”.

According to The Athletic‘s Dan Sheldon (23 July), the Cityzens rejected a £16m bid from Southampton for the forward.

Several championship sides are also said to be interest in a loan move for Delap.

The England under-19s international joined Man City’s under-23 team in 2020.

His current contract with the youth team expires in 2026.

When asked if he thought Delap could be in Pep Guardiola’s plans after the bid was rejected, Hutton told Football Insider: “Not necessarily in the plans as in he’s going to play 10 or 15 games, I wouldn’t have thought so.

But I think he could be in the plans in the future.

I think he’s shown enough and Pep has shown a willingness to put him into the team in certain situations like the Cups. He obviously sees something in him.

He trains with them day in day out, he’s seen enough to think that this player has got something for the future.

They won’t want to let that go on the cheap which, £16m is not cheap, but the potential is obviously there. So to let him go for that at the moment, and then he goes away somewhere and flourishes, that’s Manchester City’s loss.

So I think they would probably prefer to send him out on loan to get that experience and hopefully make the Man City team.

Pep Guardiola isn’t daft he won’t let anybody leave that club for cheap.
