Expert fumes as Tottenham 'star' and teammate set to join rival - 'beyond disappointing'

It is “beyond disappointing” that Tottenham have failed to hang on to two of their star youth players.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per The Athletic (20 July), Southampton are set to sign England Under-16 internationals Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Jayden Meghoma, both 16, from Spurs.

Both players can only sign professional contracts when they turn 17.

On 28 June, Wenham revealed Amo-Ameyaw had turned down Tottenham’s scholarship proposal and had offers on the table from both Manchester clubs.

Wenham claims the duo must have been promised a clear route to the first team at St Mary’s.

“I am frustrated that we have lost two players to Southampton,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I have spoken about Sam Amo-Ameyaw multiple times, I think he was the star of this group of Tottenham players.

“Meghoma as well. These are two players who played a lot last year and I just think about how good our current crop of players would be if these two were in there as well.

“It’s beyond disappointing that players have chosen to leave when we have better facilities than Southampton.

“We also have better players to train with and better coaches as well as being based in London. I am struggling to see it.

“I can only presume they have been promised routes to the first team.

They lost Tyler Dibling to Chelsea so maybe Sam is a replacement who can come in and hit that level straight away.

“He will do that as well, Sam is a very good player.”
