Southampton have just signed perfect Stuart Armstrong ally as news confirmed - pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed that new Southampton signing Joe Aribo could strike up a great partnership with Stuart Armstrong.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and West Ham striker insisted that Aribo will fare well in the Premier League.

The Gers confirmed the 25-year-old’s exit to the Saints last Saturday (9 July).

The Nigerian international joins Southampton on a four-year deal for around £10million including add-ons.

He featured heavily in the Ibrox club’s Europa League campaign, which included a goal in the final of the competition.

Aribo will team up with fellow midfielder and former Celtic man Armstrong at St. Mary’s

When asked if Aribo would fit in well at Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I can see why they’ve taken him.

He’ll work well with [Stuart] Armstrong who came from Celtic, he’s a busy player.

Aribo’s strong on the ball, he can hit a pass, he can score goals. I can see why they’ve taken him.

I think he will do alright. It’s not as easy as what people think, going to the Premier League. Going to play against the big guns, people think it’s easy.

It is not that easy but I really do think he’ll do alright.

During his three-year spell at Rangers, Aribo made 148 appearances for the Glasgow club across all competitions.

He scored 26 goals and provided 25 assists during that time.
