Sources: Newcastle and Chelsea in race to sign Southampton sensation Tyler Dibling

Newcastle and Chelsea are battling it out to sign Southampton teenage sensation Tyler Dibling, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League duo have registered their interest in the 16-year-old, who they see as a star in the making.

Newcastle have been keeping tabs on Dibling, 16, since he scored a stunning hat-trick against them in the Premier League 2 for the Saints in April.

Chelsea also regard the teenager as a huge talent who would be an ideal fit as they look to revamp their youth set-up.

The England U16 international, who has come through the ranks at Southampton, is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the country.

His impressive progress for Southampton’s youth teams last season led to him being named on the first team’s bench for their Premier League fixture against Brentford in May.

Ralph Hasenhuttl, as quoted by Hampshire Live (28 April), has described Dibling as “one of the shining players” currently plying their trade in the Saints’ academy.

In total, he scored eight goals and registered five assists in 22 total outings for the various Saints youth sides during 2021-22.

Newcastle have already announced the signing of Galway’s Alex Murphy, 18, this summer.

The club also confirmed the signing of Charlie McArthur, 17, from Kilmarnock on 6 July.

Speaking in November, as quoted by the Shields Gazette, Amanda Staveley revealed revamping Newcastle’s academy was a priority for the new owners.
