Revealed: Rangers battle Coventry City and Sunderland to sign Morgan Whittaker - sources

Coventry City, Plymouth Argyle, Rangers and Sunderland are plotting moves for Swansea City attacker Morgan Whittaker, sources have told Football Insider.

Whittaker, 22, came close to a move away from Swansea in January with multiple Rangers bids rejected.

Now, Plymouth are keen to re-sign the winger after his successful loan spell at Home Park last season.

Coventry and Sunderland are also interested in signing the former Derby County youngster as they look to bolster their attacking options.

The 22-year-old’s current contract runs until 2025 after he joined from Derby in 2021.

In January, Football Insider revealed that Rangers offered £1.5million for the forward after their opening offer of around £1m was rejected by the Swans.

The Light Blues ultimately failed to bring the forward to Glasgow in January and will attempt to do so again in the upcoming window.

Michael Beale’s side are keen for reinforcements in their forward areas after losing Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent this summer for free following the expiration of their contracts.

The Gers are looking at a major rebuild this summer which has arrival seen three new arrivals put pen to paper as they attempt to close the gap on rivals Celtic.

Whittaker made 46 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring ten goals and providing seven assists in those outings.

The winger re-joined Swansea in January following a successful loan with Plymouth during which he made 31 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
