Revealed: Liverpool are the mystery club to have made surprise move for £100m Moises Caicedo - sources

Liverpool are the mystery club to have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, sources have told Football Insider.

Chelsea have been leading the chase for Caicedo all summer and have had multiple bids rejected by the Seagulls as they hold out for their £100million asking price.

Football Insider has now learned Liverpool have have been in contact with Brighton to register their interest in Caicedo as they desperately look to add to their midfield options.

According to The Athletic, an unidentified club are claimed to have submitted an £80million-plus bid surpassing Chelsea’s most recent offer.

The Blues latest offer of £75m plus £5m in add-ons was turned down by the Seagulls.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool are willing to match Brighton’s asking price for Caicedo.

Jurgen Klopp is short on midfield options after seeing Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all depart this summer.

Liverpool have been in hot pursuit of Romeo Lavia and have held extensive talks over a deal with Southampton but have yet to match their £50m asking price.

The shock move for Caicedo comes after he was ruled out as a potential target by the Merseysiders earlier in the window.

An £80m-plus fee would smash Liverpool’s transfer record, which is still held by the £75m paid to Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.

With Arsenal recently completing the £105m capture of Declan Rice, that appeared to put Chelsea in pole position to land Caicedo, who has his heart set on quitting Brighton before the transfer window shuts.

He is believed to have agreed personal terms with the Stamford Bridge club some time ago.
