Sources: Sunderland agree to sign Clarke from Tottenham as medical booked

Sunderland have agreed to sign Tottenham winger Jack Clarke on loan, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site broke the news early on Monday (24 January) that the League One giants had made a move to land the winger, 21, by next Monday.

Now a Sunderland source has told Football Insider that a deal has been wrapped up for Clarke to head to the Stadium of Light for the rest of the season.

He will undergo a medical on Wednesday morning at the League One promotion hopefuls.

It is a major coup for Sunderland, who have already signed another attacking player from a Premier League giant this window.

Multiple other EFL clubs have expressed a January interest in Clarke.

As also first revealed by Football Insider, Patrick Roberts has joined on loan from Man City in a deal announced last Friday.

The transfer to the north-east will be the fourth loan move undertaken by Clarke since he joined Spurs from boyhood club Leeds United in the summer of 2019 for a deal worth up to £13million.

He has struggled to live up to that price tag and has barely figured for the first team since his arrival.

Clarke has spent the season so far at his parent club after changing his mind late last August about a loan move.

His only senior involvement this season has come as a late substitute in the 1-0 Europa Conference League qualifier loss to Pacos Ferreira in August.

Clarke’s three previous loan spells include an unsuccessful temporary return to Elland Road as well as moves to QPR and Stoke City, where he spent the second half of last season.

The six-times England Under-20 international featured 14 times for the Potters and provided two assists.

He has 18 months remaining on the four-year deal he signed upon his arrival at Tottenham.
