'Tears in my eyes', 'Best I've seen him play' - Tottenham fans react to 'amazing' Giovani Lo Celso display for Argentina

Tottenham fans were left impressed with Giovani Lo Celso’s display for Argentina in their chaotic World Cup qualifier clash against Brazil on Wednesday (22 November).

The iconic Maracana was the setting of a typically feisty outing for the South American titans, but the Spurs midfielder’s pin-point delivery from the corner was drilled home by a Nicolas Otamendi header to secure the 1-0 win.

Post-match clashes between fans and the police saw the players attempt to restore order, but Lo Celso’s assist helped keep Argentina at the top of the CONMEBOL qualification table, while Brazil dropped to sixth.

Amid an injury and a tactical reshuffle under Ange Postecoglou, the 27-year-old is truly a fringe player this season and has mustered just 87 minutes of football for Tottenham.

However, in light of his recent excellence, Spurs fans have taken to social media and are warming to the idea that Lo Celso can have an impact on his club side this season.

With 42 fouls in the game, this fan was pleased to see Lo Celso escape the clash without injury and is keen to see him bring his form to the upcoming Aston Villa clash on Sunday (26 November).

This fan couldn’t help but have a playful dig at the Argentine for actually beating the first man at the corner before his assist.

One supporter pointed to a trio of Spurs players, including Uruguay’s Rodrigo Bentancur, and their exceptional performances that could prove “amazing” for the club.

This fan is eyeing Lo Celso as James Maddison’s replacement to add a creative spark that has been absent in Spurs’ last two Premier League games.

One supporter hailed Lo Celso’s outing as the most impressive “for a long time”.

Amid the struggles in N17, this supporter is hopeful that the international displays from Tottenham’s fringe players could help bring a change in fortunes.

This supporter pointed to an altercation between Brazil’s Rodrygo and Argentina players but insisted Lo Celso “owns” the Real Madrid star.

Some fans are keen to see Lo Celso get the nod in Postecoglou’s starting line-up on the weekend.
